PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS
The County of Riverside has approved a contract to improve the Limonite Interchange on Interstate 15. The improvements consist of a new 8-lane overcrossing, 3 through lanes in each direction plus 2 turn lanes, widening of the off-ramps from 2 to 4 lanes, the addition of 2 new loop on-ramps, and the widening of Limonite Avenue to 4 lanes in each direction between Hamner Avenue and Wineville Avenue.
EXISTING CONDITIONS/NEED
Limonite Avenue is an east-west arterial roadway between Hamner Avenue and Wineville Avenue. West of the I-15 Interchange area, Limonite Avenue is a five-lane facility with three WB and two EB lanes. East of the interchange, Limonite Avenue is a four-lane facility with two WB and two EB lanes. In 2006, interim improvements to the interchange were made to widen the ramps and restripe the overcrossing to provide dual left turn lanes at the on-ramps. At the time, it was acknowledged that additional improvements would be needed to accommodate long range traffic forecasts. The cities of Eastvale and Jurupa Valley are expected to grow and add new residences and businesses in the upcoming years, resulting in an increase in traffic. The proposed I-15/Limonite Avenue interchange improvements are designed to accommodate the existing and future traffic associated with the planned development.
